Welcome!

In our work together we will be uncovering your strengths to begin your healing journey. You are the expert on you and I am here to listen and be a guide who walks alongside you as you heal yourself. My education and years of experience working in the healing profession has taught me that  everyone has their own personal inner guidance.  My job as a healer who uses my education, experience and intuition is to assist you to tune back into your own inner guidance.

I am a trained psychotherapist (Licensed Clinical Social Worker).
In my psychotherapy practice, I use various techniques such as Ego State Work (we are all made up of different parts), Mindfulness, Meditation, Visualization, CBT and  EMDR.

I recently added Induced After Death Communication to my psychotherapy toolbox. If you have lost a loved one, this therapy may help you with your grief.

In whatever capacity in which you choose,  we will discuss your current concerns/challenges and determine a plan for healing together.  In psychotherapy we examine the past in order to identify thought and behavior patterns that keep repeating themselves or blocking our healing. In both psychotherapy and integrative work we go inside to explore the body, mind, and spirit's feedback to our daily interactions, habits and functioning.  The process of healing can be uncomfortable and takes time. Having a relationship with a therapist or a healer of any kind is not like a friendship or a family relationship. There are ethical boundaries that need to be observed in both worlds. Please be wary of anyone that does not hold ethics as the utmost importance in their healing work.

As a therapist, I am trained to be culturally competent, trauma informed and professional. I bring this training into my energy/integrative work as well. I am always a work in progress like everyone else and am always working to be better. I welcome feedback always. Keeping all of this in mind, working with a healer of any kind can also begin to set off discomfort because beginning this journey brings up old wounds, triggers, and defenses. Making changes in your life can be hard, but extremely rewarding. If you work with me you will find out that I am a good mixture of loving, laughing and directness. I try to remember to ask at the end of any session if what we have done has been helpful. If you work with me I ask that you be truthful with me about how you feel about our work together.

I am not a fit for everyone and that is quite alright! My Grandma used to say, "It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round."  I cannot guarantee that my approach is the best fit for you, but I will work my hardest to ensure you are getting what you need from me if we mutually decide we are a good fit.  If we are not a good fit I will do my best to provide you with a referral that is more suitable to your needs and there are absolutely no hard feelings. I am just one piece of your road to healing whether we spend one session together or many.

I am a Reiki Master. Reiki is separate from my psychotherapy practice and is not covered by insurance. Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that allows me to activate the natural healing process of your body with energy to restore emotional and physical well-being. See the Reiki tab on this site for more information. I do Reiki healings in person and I am also attuned to do distance healing sessions as well. Reiki is not a religion or belief system and can do absolutely no harm. You must give your consent for a Reiki healing. If you go to anyone else that provides Reiki as a healing modality please be aware that they must ask for your consent every single time. The same goes for any type of divination, intuitive work or spiritual work. Be choosy about who you go to and make sure they are ethical.

I do take insurance for my psychotherapy practice, but I also accept self pay. I am on the following insurance panels: Aetna, Humana, and Cigna. I accept cash, checks, and credit cards as well as flexible spending accounts.

You can contact me via phone (call or text) at 502-594-9215 or email at jtownsendlcsw@gmail.com. Usually the fastest way to get in touch with me is text. My email box tends to be overrun and I have a harder time keeping up with it. If you email me and don't hear back, please just text me. I have a busy practice, I am Mother to three amazing children, and work hard to have fun as well. I usually have my phone with me, so I will see your text first. Also, please know that I am in session, with my family, or having much needed self care time. I try my hardest to get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding insurance, pricing questions, or just my practice in general. I would love to answer any questions you have!
